FAQs
Please note that having approved Austrian family allowances is a prerequisite for claiming the Familienbonus Plus tax credit in your tax return.
Eligibility applies to individuals who have children, work in Austria, and consequently pay taxes and social contributions there. The entitlement to allowances begins in the month when the parent is socially insured in Austria, effective from the first day of that month.
Austrian family allowances can also be claimed by self-employed individuals (sole traders), as well as those receiving unemployment benefits, maternity benefits, parental allowance, or even a pension from Austria.
It is possible to apply for Austrian family allowances up to 5 years retroactively.
It is important to note that having approved Austrian family allowances is the main condition for claiming the Familienbonus Plus tax credit in your tax return.
If you wish to apply for family allowances in Austria, you first need to submit an application to the relevant tax office in Austria (Finanzamt Österreich) and provide several documents. These include, for example, the child’s birth certificate, a certificate of kindergarten or school attendance, a certificate of joint family residence, and if the applicant is a divorced individual, the divorce decree.
Please complete our short online form, and we will handle everything. We will assign you a specialist who will then contact you regarding the submission of further necessary documents and clarify the next steps.
After completing our online form on our website, we will contact you almost immediately, and your application for Austrian family allowances will be processed within a few business days.
Subsequently, after your application is submitted and sent to the Austrian tax office, the Finanzamt, further processing of this application typically takes longer, up to several months.
The maximum period stipulated by law is 6 months, but this is highly individual. The processing time for your application ‘on the Austrian side’ depends on the specific employee of the Austrian tax office and varies greatly. This period can be shorter or longer. Therefore, if you wish to submit an application for family allowances, we recommend contacting us as soon as possible.
We have been active in the field of Austrian tax returns and family allowances for almost 10 years.
We have extensive experience in communicating with the Austrian tax office, known as Finanzamt. If necessary, an Austrian Steuerberater (tax advisor) communicates with the Finanzamt on your behalf, which is a significant advantage.
The area of taxes is very sensitive, as it involves working with your hard-earned money. It is therefore important to entrust this service to someone who is a professional in the field and whom you can truly trust. We cooperate with official tax advisors, both on the Slovak and Austrian sides.
Not everyone is technically inclined. With us, you do not necessarily need to have ID Austria set up and so-called two-factor authentication, which will save you a lot of time and worries.
If you entrust your taxes to us, in your tax return, you can claim the costs for our services as so-called Steuerberatungskosten (tax advisory fees).
